Glynne's return to the Marathon

Unless you've been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you might have noticed it's marathon season! I sat down with my client Glynne, who is returning to training and running the distance after a 12 year hiatus.

Here, he explains why he decided to return, how training affected his decision and why you too might want to give the 26.2 mile challenge a good go yourself!

Alex:

Hi Glynne, so tell us who you are and what you've got coming up this weekend?

Glynne:

So I'm Glynne and I'm doing the Manchester Marathon on Sunday. my first marathon in twelve years.

Alex:

And what's the reason you're coming back to the distance?

Glynne:

A challenge, Its twelve years since I last did one. I sort of fell out with the distance, fell out with running. So over the last 18 months / 2 years, I slowly started to get back into running. Injury after injury after injury, but this time I've had a good spell of training with Alex and I'm ready to go.. I think!

Alex:

And what's made you enjoy running more so this training block?

Glynne:

Running with groups rather than running on my own individually, I used to always do all of my training runs on my own and I've really enjoyed running with other people, rather than just being out there on my own.

It's been really motivating on a Saturday or Sunday morning to get up and meet people and go for a long run.

Alex:

And what's the charity you're fundraising for this time?

Glynne:

I'm raising money for Derian House, local children's hospice in Chorley.

Alex:

And how can we donate for that?

Glynne:

I've set up a Just Giving page, which I've shared on my Facebook Page and on various WhatsApp groups or through, directly, if anyone wanted to drop anything at Shawhill, if you don't want to do it through Just Giving or through Horwich Harriers.

Alex:

What's the one thing you would say to someone thinking about doing a marathon?

Glynne:

People used to say to me back - a few years back, that they couldn't run. Anyone can run. And a marathon is all about building up your running, building up your training, getting your distance in and just having a go. And I personally think this is a challenge that anyone can achieve.

Glynne successfully completed the Manchester Marathon in 4:04:04, which is an amazing achievement! Below can watch his full interview and see the moment Glynne accomplishes this enormous feat.

Well done to Glynne!
